The very fine people in the Florida State Legislature have in their infinite wisdom introduced a bill into the Assembly:
“Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) wants bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines.
Brodeur’s proposal, Senate Bill 1316: Information Dissemination, would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics.”
This is not a political blog, and I don’t give a flying pig about partisan politics here. But it is a blog in Florida, and I do give a flying pig about the First Amendment, democracy, and tinpot fascist-wannabe’s from any party.
So first, let me say this:
“Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is a poopyhead, so there”.
And now that I am legally a Florida blog who has written unfavorably about Florida’s Dear Leader, then let me say this:
“I’m not registering a fucking thing with anyone anywhere for this blog and I’m not paying a single nickel in fines, so there. Come and get me, dickweed.”
Of course, this dumbass partisan posturing has zero chance of passing into law, much less surviving a court challenge. But whenever the fucking fascists tell you who they are—believe them.
No wonder everyone calls us “Flori-duh”. We are a society that has become too stupid to live.

And to have to submit monthly reports as well? Absurd. 😑
I know barely anything about Florida politics, but this bill is a blatant violation of Article 1, Section 4 of the Florida State Constitution: “Every person may speak, write and publish sentiments on all subjects but shall be responsible for the abuse of that right. No law shall be passed to restrain or abridge the liberty of speech or of the press. In all criminal prosecutions and civil actions for defamation the truth may be given in evidence. If the matter charged as defamatory is true and was published with good motives, the party shall be acquitted or exonerated”.
I suspect they know full well that it’s unconstitutional. It’s sole and only purpose is to intimidate people who oppose them.
When Fascists tell you that they are Fascists, believe them.
